Was it a Twilite or a STARRY nite ??

Monday December 3rd was supposed to be the 2007 edition of BC Trac's annual Odd distance meet aptly called "TWILITE". In the end it was "Starry" from beginning to end proving that in the future a name change may be expected ? No it wasn't the athletes of the host club that so dominated that meet, but our very own little twinkers and big twinkers that set Waterford ablaze.
I have no idea if twinkers is a word but it sounds good to me and so I will use it anyways. THERE!! So now just look at the results from Monday when the Stadium was ourssssssssssssssssss. Again only positions and times will be posted.

Grand Prix finalists

So the long awaited Grand Prix prelims all came and went and on the three days of competition it was the Rising Stars show all the time. From the beginning when the field events prelims were held we got the feeling that this was gonna be a huge celebration leading into our second anniversary.
Was I correct ? U betcha!! I was even so bored at the second edition at Harrison College,I was even begging for a chance for the other clubs only to be told, quote " U like u want putting outta dis club ya!"

And yes there is a 4x400m Men's team. And yes we have to conquer the " leapers".And yes there are gonna be changes to the team and finally YES if Babb wanna be good wid me he wud.HAHA!!

So there u have it members and family alike, the finalists and winners from the land of the RISING STARS!!

A "Star" has fallen

Just in case you readers in blogland are unaware, one of the most promising junior athletes in Barbados died on Sunday November 25th at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Angus A A Wilkinson also a member of the Rising Stars Track and Field Club went to meet the Heavenly Father after being in a coma for a week. His sense of humour, wit and willingness to help at training are some of the characteristics that made "Gus" the person we knew and loved in the short time he was with us( that refers to the club and not his life).
Saturday evening ( December 8th) at the Carlton Grounds in Black Rock, the athletes of Rising Stars T&FC will compete to the best of their ability in memory and honour of our own fallen "star".
May he rest in peace with his Heavenly Father!!

Fitness Run 2

Ok, so now I am back ( and it is only because Halana begged). And yes we had a second run but it wasn't at Bath for those who wanted to see the coach run, haha!!
We went to Farley Hill and the all the athletes didn't do was puke. After a longgggggggggg run up that hill, a hefty brekkie ( yes Ramon G) that is short for breakfast in case you ask. Sweetbread, apple juice, apples, cheese and ham sandwiches and more were on the menu.Anyways somebody forget ( yes they did) to add water to the heaters and we had to eat hotdogs hard.Imagine thinking that the hotdogs were taking THAT long because too much was in the saucepan only to find out that the water wasn't there.LOLOL!!
If you think that was the highlight,no it wasn't. God bless the soul of Thorn's grandma, she was the only person that Babb passed and it was at the END of the hill run.
ANOTHER HAHA!!

Return for the results from the Grand Prix.

The final run

Ok, so this has been late in coming but if you readers wanted it that badly then somebody should buy this blogger a computer???????????????????!!!!!!
The fitness run up Farley Hill on Saturday October 27th was apparently even harder than the first. The runners and part-time walkers started in stages and before people get half way up the hill, puffs and pants ( not the clothes) were the order of the morning.
The 2nd last person to finish was to finish was our Head Coach ( haha - poor fella). The only person he pass was Thorn's grandmother and if she was any fitter...................
We had a breakfast that was so huge it turned out 2 be a picnic.NUFF FOOD!! U should c the athletes "pain free" going thru all the food that was there even the hot dogs that tek all morning 2 cook.
After all that though the athletes had a blast at Farley Hill getting ready 4 the Grand Prix series. So, if u wanna know the results of Grand Prix 1 at Lester Vaughan, u gotta come back here again.

From LVS to 3 Houses and Bath

It was one of d most anticipated runs of d year and when it was dun, athletes were not only panting and gasping but 3 parents were fit 2 b tied. HAHAHA!! Good 4 dem!!
The sleepover at the Lester Vaughan School was so good that all d people from St Phar( wherever that is) came down. Now can u imagine the run itself began in that parish but yet those people came all d way here?? Now that shows the camaraderie of the RST&FC.
We had parents who also slept over and BIG UP 2 Earla-Ashlee's mommy,Tyrell's daddy and Halana's "daddy'' as well. Mrs Gitts was in her 4wheeler( so was I), Rafe's mommyyy ( that's what he calls her) was there and so were Thorn's ( thinker) grandma. Nice job y'all!
Anyway Kenrisha( she of the spindly legs) won the girls. HAHA, way 2 go KB. U shoulda c dem lil feet pelting on d road and she even outpaced Kerri-Ann B. The boys was all Damian M and Malachi J.
Now we all know that b head coach always talk about lavatory matter and when at the end of d race he was heading for a "SOLID DISCUSSION", down came a coconut on d "office". Now that was funny!LOL,HAHA,CACKLE!!!
Wunna come 2 d next one hear!

Can you imagine ??

Ok, imagine the start of the 2007 track and field season . Remember we had nuff trouble trying to get Frenchy to concentrate on training properly ? Now it is the end of the same season and that same Frenchy has made us and the entire country PROUD.
Some may say that the time he ran in the semi-finals was slow ( 13.8something), that is true. However what should also be said is it was an achievement ( accomplishment if u wanna call it that) in itself just making the semis.
Well done Frenchy,Well done Coach Babb!!

Pan Am and World Youth

While the track and field season ended for us here in the land that was once "The land of flying fish", it did not end for some of our athletes. The Rising Stars T&FC was well represented at the 2007 edition of the Pan-American Games by Keisha Walkes ( Discus & Shot Putt), Ramon Gittens ( 200m) and most notably Ryan.M.Brathwaite who was a commendable and very impressive 4th place in the Men's 110m hurdles.

In Ostrava,Czech Republic, queen of the 100m hurdles in Barbados,Kierre Beckles ran a personal and season best(13.47) in the 100m hurdles at the World Youth Chanpionships. Unfortunately fate was against "boy-boy" HAHA and she didn't reach the finals of her event. Congrats on the PB anyhow.

Kudos to World Octathlon Champion Shane Brathwaite!! Does anyone know that not only does Shane train with the us, but that he was solely coached by the head coach of the RST&FC,Alwyn Babb??

Isn't that testament to the fact that we have the arguably the best junior coach in Barbados ( need I say the Caribbean) based on the fact that Kierre,Ryan and even Shane all had and still has world rankings?

The 2008 training sessions are now in full swing and it is more than likely that we will have more athletes making the world stage our own galaxy next year.

SO SORRY!!

Ok, I guess you track and field lovers were/are thinking that the blog has been 'done away' with. That is not the case at all. A lot has been happening in Rising Stars land and now that all has been taken care of updates will be made. During the time that the blog has been dormant,we have lost one of our coaches and also saw the deaparture of an athlete. The best to both of them.
Training sessions has started and continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Brandon's Beach close to Weiser's Bar and Restaurant and are going great. See you all there soon!!

Stars shine at Nationals 2007

Ok,so the Barbados Advocate said it first( I think), but athletes from the Rising Stars Track & Field Club shone from Friday June 22nd - Sunday June 24th at the 2007 National Track and Field Championships.
So we didn't win everything( that was absolutely impossible), but with all the top three placings( read the Advocate if wunna doubt me), this club was D BOMB!!
Those who weren't at the Stadium, read on. For those who were there, you can read on too!
Imagine that old-stager Agard in this his twilight years could run so fast and get a bronze in an event where he was on of the oldest? Chalk one for the aged!!
Weeeeeeeasel slithered to victory in the Men's 400m 'B' final, Kierre ran a 13.67 and beat up the place like she own it,Frenchie did what is natural.Yeah,he won again.
Now I hope wunna realise that the best was saved for last? In this case it was two best( if that is possible). Imagine again that D great Oba nearly get a coronary ( for those who don't know the meaning : heart attack). Waterford was ablaze when Sheila and Michael child nearly TRACK spraddled the mighty "O". He ran he to the ground. GOOD RACE FELLA!!
After training for less than two months, Gue Gue from d'arleans( how he pronounces it) hurdled literally to be a national Champion in the 400m hurdles. Guy,you showed the heart of a true LIBRAN and it was a job well done.
With the good, there is often the bad and the shock for the club occured also in the Men's 400m hurdles.Imagine an athlete(any athlete) training, wasting the coaches time, registering to compete, signing up to compete and then barring injury( nothing was relayed) DIDN'T COMPETE???
SOMETHING ABOUT THAT AIN'T RIGHT!!!
So in the end after a weekend of true dominance,Nationals 2007 proved a resounding success for the RST&FC and all was well in the galaxy again.

COME BACK LATER FOR THE RESULTS !!!

It is not only here in Barbados that our athletes are performing well, but also in the United States.
At the University of Texas at El Paso(UTEP),former Harrisonian Keisha Walkes was recently received a major award for academics in her conference. Keisha has a perfect grade point average(GPA) of 4.0 and is doing studies in the field of medicine. She has also been performing well in athletics in the discus.

At Central Arizona College, former Lester Vaughan sprint queen Liann Kellman in her first year of a track and field scholarship has just run 11.77 secs.

Congrats and further Good Luck to these two girls !

2007 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

Athletes, parents and friends of the Rising Stars T&FC it is fast approaching that time of the year when we have to really prove that we are the best at what we do. I refer to the annual Club Championships of which we are the defending champions.

Junior glory ??

The junior athletes ( at least most of them) will try their best over the next few weeks to earn a place in the CAC Age Group team. Dario,Jerrad,Shakir,Deondray and others will compete against the best athletes in their age groups for this once in a lifetime chance.
Also RSTFC member Elroy Agard has been named as the Head Coach of this team. Congrats Agard!!

Worthy mention

Some people are born talented, some people will have to earn it and most people may have some "thrust" upon them. When it comes to track and field that also holds true and Carifta 2007 was no exception.
In Providenciales,Turks and Caicos, the athletes from the RSTFC made the most of the opportunities given and made us proud.
OK,so pride of place will have to go to Ryan"Frenchydan" Brathwaite for his all conquering and Carifta shattering run in the Boys 110m hurdles again. This came after breaking the record he had set at last year's Carifta Games in Guadeloupe. Good job son!! If only ...................!! Also in that race another of our athletes ( the other R) ran a SB. Kudos!!
Kierre was third in her first full year in the seniors in the 100m hurdles. Kenrisha won two bronze medals as well in hurdles - 100m & 300m respectively.
Tyrell ran a PB in the Boys U-17 hurdles but had to settle for fourth place. It should be noted that the time he ran might've been good for a medal last year. Another year you have son, fret not.
Another medal for us came from long distance ace Christian Rock in the Boys 5000m Open. Good job!!
If there was a person on the team who might've surprised many with two remarkable times it would be Dario Alleyne. Not only did he run a SB in both the 100m & 200m races, but if our memory serves us well he hasn't run a 200m that fast in years. Work at it guy, there is more to come!!
Unfortunately it wasn't all good news as one of us got injured in their race and DNF. That is the way it goes in track and field.
Mention to Coach Babb for his efforts with the relay teams.

Edges that weren't sharp enuff

Even stars need their edges(points to some people) sharpened occasionally. It is unheard of that to be glittery most edges (points) has to be constantly pruned ? What is being talked about? Read on :

Halana - 3rd- U.15 Girls 200m - 27.17. Now we all know that something was wrong. What was it ? Go figure!
Deondray - 17th ( u kidding ) - U.15 Boys 200m - 27.57. Somebody needs to let this boy NOT concentrate on scaling bars.OK!!

WAY 2 GO !!

Several years ago , a little boy from somewhere in St.T ( find out who) ran all the way to track and field glory. He lost his way for a few years after and nothing much was heard about him. Then behold 2006 BSSAc and that spindly boy was seen again. Who is he?
Now behold 2007 and NJC, a little boy no more( neither a man), the heir apparent to all T&F gave notice that HE WAS BACK.

Check this :
200m - U.20 Boys - 21.67. Now remember he won the 100m also. GREAT DOUBLE GUY!!!
In that race, the chap from the bridge - ( 7th) - 22.14.

MEN - 200m
Ramon - 21.40
Weasel ( hopefully he alright with this nickname) - 21.94
McCollin - 22.91.

800m U-20 Girls
Jamacy ( no she ain't new) -2.50.37

The motto of this club is " The barrier is in your mind". Somebody took that to heart and literally kept it there. Barriers are hurdles that needs clearing to win, place second or even third.Correct?
Pomposity ( yes walking spring boy, that is a word) and arrogance( now tell me u ain't know that one) are all barriers/hurdles.
So get over these and become winners always,Right Team? - 54.09.

Kudos to Dwayne - 400m H- U-20 Boys ( 3rd) - 58.98.

Again remember that the blog you read is about and for the RSTFC. It is our attempt to give all our athletes, their families, friends and track and field lovers the opportunity to share in the overall development of our athletes.
Any member who believes that this blog is being done in a malicious ( GUY, READ WEBSTER's DICTIONARY) manner, should desist ( yes another word, walking spring,HAHA) from reading .

CONGRATULATIONS !!

Congratulations to some of the tiniest "stars" in the galaxy ,Nicole Parris and Tristan Evelyn. Nicole is the Victrix Ludorum at the Good Shepherd Primary School inter-house sports and the U-11 Girls Division winner of the Napsac ( Zone 1).
Tristan is the winner at Mount Tabor Primary School inter-house sports.

NOTICE !!

" I dun widdat!!"

Some were good, some were bad and some were just ........ ahhhhhh ( performances I mean). What was supposed to be a 'starring' role turned into a cameo when the 2007 National Junior Championships ended.
The hurdlers were extremely dominant winning 5 of 6 hurdles finals in this order ;

Rhys - U-15 Boys 80m H - 12.36
Kuddly ( I know it is a 'c') Kenrisha - U-17 Girls 100mH - 14.74
Tyrell ( had to fight for this one) -U-17 Boys 100mH - 14.07. Ran a PB in the prelims -13.87
Kierre ( 14.20) vs Karessa ( 14.32) vs Kimberley ( 14.37) . Now guess who ain't gonna go to the T&C ?
Remember the victory lap(it wasn't) that Frenchie took after winning the 110mH from Ronnie (14.48) ? Remember Beijing China 2006 also ? Now it was a case of deja-vu all over again. Imagine he called the coach and said " I gine blow dem 'way !" and then get the nerves?

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES ;

Tanisha ( she finally felt like running) - 2nd- U-17 Girls 1500m- 5.34.19
Halana ( ran like it was the hills in Massiah Street,looked tired) - 2nd - U-15 Girls 400m- 1.02.29
Bulky Brandon ( save your invinciblity guy )- 2nd -U-15 Boys 100m - 12.10
Jodie ( newbie) - 3rd - U-17 Boys HJ - 1.75m
Christian - 1st - U-20 Boys 1500m - 4.17.99
Damien E - 7th - U-20 Boys 1500m - 5.04.07
Erla-Ashlee - 7th - U-15 Girls 100m - 13.71
Kendra ( finally made a final?) - 7th - U-17 Girls 100m -13.00

FLASHBACK/FAST FORWARD
Close your eyes and go all the way back to the LVS inter-house sports. Bring the U-20Boys 100m into focus. Remember who won and what he did to the 2nd place finisher?
NOw open your eyes and return to the present. The JNC 100m. LAUGH NOW at the results and the finishing order.
Maybe now the winner can feel justified about eating that WHOLE chicken and the 4th place finisher can give Haloute at the Bridge more bizness.

The ' men' ain't get left out. The head honcho was livid at the men ( his word) after they ran a lotta itch ( his word again). " Imagine dem come in here like dey feel dis meet ain't important and run a lotta foolishness" ( yup, i was told to quote) and den gine ask me how dey ran? Man u wait ". Waiting all now.
Ok,so he did say Ramon opened up ? Like yeahhhhhhhh !
Everton, well .................. figure it out
Agard, must've been tired guy ( I 4give u)
Weasel. it stands to reason that it might've been the SHOES.Yup hard plastic guy? Comeon.
Rommell, not bad chap but ask head honcho about CUT years ago.
McCollin, another 50s run. Is this the Bajan equivalent to Merlene ( bronze queen) he being the 50s King?

Coach was more vex and said after spitting fury ( literally,I felt most of it) " I dun giving dem all my blasted time when dem come to training. I just gine write de workout and dat is it. U C how dem come to de Stadium, dem did neva ready to run. So when Easter come and kites flying, I gine buy one and giddem". That is so funny.

To all the Carifta qualifiers, congrats.

To see a star on earth

Long ago in Rising Star land, the Head 'star' said ," if wunna ( not a word) could run it it,wunna could train in it" and so he summoned all the 'stars' from the galaxy for two nights ( yes nights) of intense training.
He called the earthly weasel, he called the walking spring and he made the boom box raise it's volume. Oh yeah he pulled the Xman from the comic book too. The evergreen left St.Far and the old stager (LVS) came from the Bridge in St.G.
The Head'star' wanted the points ( or is it edges) sharpened. He glided,he preened and then he did that some more.
There were little 'stars',young'stars',old 'stars' and wanna be'stars', they were even semi-retired'stars'.
The Sprinters they GROANED.
The Quarter-milers they COMPLAINED.
The Milers they grimaced with PAIN.
In the end when all was said ( they couldn't talk much,HAHA) and done and whoever said when the rain falls stars don't shine, missed seeing what maybe a once in a lifetime chance.
The Rising Stars Track and Field Club had come to the National Stadium on March 6th -7th 2007.
And after that all was well in Rising Stars land.
THE END!!!

Who ain't dead....................badly wounded

The saga of the hurdlers ( Ronnie -14.53 & Ryan -13.66) continued and in the end it was Ryan again. Does anyone remember the Dave vs Dan commercials of USof A before an Olympic Games several years ago? JUST WAIT !! This may get ugly or muddy.
Rhys was third in the U-15 Boys 100m -12.61s. Not bad lad
Ahh,Shakir. D older boys can learn from u when it comes 2 using anger positively. 400m U-15 Boys (2nd) to Taurean Greenidge ( Wibisco Stars) 56.34 - 56.52. Mad as a hatter,look at the results now 4 Shakir. 200m - 24.74 - 25.13 against the same guy.
Tyrell again was the best of the U-17 Boys in the 100m H -14.02. More 2 come eh guy?
The 'boy' ( yeah right) once known as the fastest local athlete ( I heard that on CBC) has won again . The lad ??? from a walking spring ? ran ( or was it flowed) through a good field to win the Men's 100m in 10.74s. Also in that race the evergeen Elroy (10.98) and two old ( because they ran like it) Harper ( 11.01) and Dario (11.12).
Wait nuh, inconsistency and tardiness cost somebody a win in the 200m. the result a third place (21.82).
The flu surely was big that time as even our 'weasel' got it . Kudos guy on a satisfactory fourth (21.96).
Consistency is good, just ask these guys about it :
Men's 400m - 50.06
Men's 800m - 1.57.56
Men's 5000 Open - 16.06.17
Men's 4x100m - 41.25
Bickering ain't : Men's 4x400m - 3.18.92. They should've won!!

AND NOW THE GALS!

Kenrisha again won two events -100m H (14.62) and the 300m H(45.46). Sleeping in the blocks for this "star" cost her a fourth win in the 100m. Yup even stars have 2 sleep.
Princess Halana ran a streaking ( all pun intended) 400m in the U-15 Girls division in an amazing 61.40s by exactly a second to her nearest rival 62.40s. Not bad for a 12 year old huh?
That girl with the boom-box voice though was third in the Women's 100m - 12.25s.

It was just another night when the stars blazed the track and orange, black and white were seen all over the galaxy.

Really ??

Ain't life starry"?

Tiny Andre ( but not he mout') Harper finally has a record in his name at the Lester Vaughan School in the U.20 Boys 100m (10.66). It was sorta impressive ( yeah right ) but the little master of deception got the job done. Way to go Harps.
HOWEVER it was the Senior Boys high jump that the man from wherever in St.George bemused the entire Stadium with a leap of 1.75. Scaling has it's advantages, right guy?
Guess what ? Almost (if not all) the members of Rising Stars won a division or broke a record.
Read on :

Jamacy Drayton - Victrix Ludorum
Andre Harper - Victor Ludorum ( U THINK ?)
1 'K' - Kierre - 100m Hurdles Senior - 14.25 secs
2 'K' - Kenrisha - 100m U.17 Girls - 12.00 secs
Rhys Phillips - 80mH U.15 Boys - 12.37 secs
BIG Brandon Inniss ( he had 3) - Shot Putt -12.80m,Discus - 37.38m,Javelin - 34.28m. ALL RECORDS.
Good going you guys/gals.
LIFE SURE IS SWEET WHEN THE STARS CAN SHINE ALL THE TIME

XCATLY 1 day lata ................................
A tinier unassuming lad reinforced that good things come in small packages ( in this case frame). Jerrad Mason was head and shoulders ( DUH !!!) above his opponents winning the 100m,200m and piercing the 400m in a record (59.???). Where ? Harrison College Inter-House Sports. He ultimately ran ( pun intended) with the U.13 Boys Division.
Also at that meet towering Tyrell broke the U.17 Boys 100m hurdles record. Time ? Can't help ya.

Uh-Uh !!
Dem "K" girls mek de Carifta qualifying times in the 100m hurdles ( U.17 & Women ).

Yeah bo,Weasel win de 400m Men( 49.42 ) and he was second in the 200m ( 21.76 ). He does run like a real weasel.

Shakeup in the camp

After what he deemed to be "under-performances" by the senior athletes at the recent Relay Fair, the Head Coach of the RSTFC has literally thrown a massive dose of 'thunderdust' in the camp.
Who are the former national athletes to be shaken up by this dust ?
Will we get better performances from this decision ?
According to the Coach," from here on in people gotta earn their pick".
Funny ain't it ?

They do,they really do shine at day

Whoever said that stars only shine at night certainly wasn't at the National Stadium yesterday ( Saturday 10th February 2007 ) at the annual Barbados Relay Fair.
The athletes from this club lit up the track leaving spectators gasping, jumping and wanting more.
The K's ( Kendra,Kenrishsa and Kierre),the D's ( Damian M and E and Dario) as well as Ramon,Shadir,Frenchie,Harper,Ronnie,Ricardo T,Everton,Tanisha and Rommell were electrifying. Throw in a "weasel" (Jamal) and the galaxy was ablaze with stars.
Several club members also contributed to good performances for their schools. Halana,Shaq,Dwayne and Christian ( Lodge), Shakir ( QC) and terrific Tyrell (HC) who in an amazing third leg for Harrison College put his team in a commanding position to win the U.17 Boys 4x400m relay.
Well done all y'all !!!

Ooops!! We did it again !!

A graceful "star" shone all over the parish of St.John on Friday ( 9th Febraury 2007 ) at the grounds of the Lodge school.
Halana Gittens competing in the Division Four and our newest emerging talent convincingly electrified spectators in winning the 100,200,400 and 800m before winning the Junior Victrix Ludorum title at the 2007 Inter-house Sports.
Hail Princess Halana!!
At the same meet,Shaquille Hollingsworth also in that division was victorious in the 100,200 and 400m. Way to go Shaq!

Update !

Kittenish Kenrisha and Tiny Tristan won their respective divisions at the Young Olympians meet on Saturday February 3rd. Kenrisha dismissed the challenge of Quantum Leap's Mara Weekes and Erica Griffith to win the Girls' U.17 scoring 26pts to Mara's 20pts and Erica's 14pts.
Tristan meanwhile won the Girls' U.11 division. No points for her as yet.
Mention must be made of Dario S ( yeah, another Dario) who won the Boys' U.13 800m.
And so the stars continue to shine.

Shining lights !!!

The glow of the youngsters in the Rising Stars Track and Field Club shone all over the National Stadium on Saturday (February 3rd) as BC Trac's Young Olympians meet was held. The sixteen member team was brilliant as well as bright.
Competing like the stars that they truly are the junior athletes U-11 through U-17 twinkled and glowed from start to finish.
Dazzling performances came from Jerrad (record -U.13 Boys 400m 59.98) and emerging superSTAR,Kenrisha ( record - U.17 Girls 300m Hurdles,46.52).Other notables were burly Brandon, titillating Tristan, talented Tyrell and the U.15 Boys 4x100m relay team.
It was another day where the stars really shone and spectators were "blinded".

One so far !!

A twinkle shone brightly at the Ellerslie School's annual Inter-house athletic meet yesterday when little Deondray Richards won the Boys U-13 division by an amazing 36points.
His most astounding run however was in the 400m relay and his house trailing by almost 20meters. Taking the baton in second place, Deondray lit up(literally) the Stadium by catching the race leader at the finish line and with arms outstretched and mouth just as wide (in glee), reminded pundits of Donovan Bailey's win in his 100m Olympic victory.
Way to go, Deondray.

STARS still shining !!!

With the 2007 track season still in the "shimmering" stage, athletes from Rising Stars track club are showing that when national selectors begin looking at teams this year, they should be in the thick of things.
At the recently held Open League #1, some of the athletes gave very commendable performances.
Harrison College schoolboy Tyrell Forde got over his first hurdle(pun intended) narrowly beating BC Trac's Greggmar Swift in the Boys' U-17 100m hurdle 13.9 - 14.0. WHEW !!
Ryan "Frenchie" Brathwaite again got the better of teammate Ronnie Griffith, by the slimmest of margins in the Boys 110m hurdle 14.5 - 14.6. The hurdle battle has really begun between these two.
Former Lester Vaughan schoolboy Lemar Calderon was second to CAC medalist and one of two ( a twin),Fabian Norgrove in the U-20 Boys 1500 - 4.26 - 4.29.
Halana Gittens was a brave third in the U- 15 Girls 400m behind more notable athletes Shavonne Husbands ( Freedom Striders) and Tanice Watson ( BC Trac).Halana time was 67.0 secs. Good effort Halana !!
The boys' equivalent saw Shakir Sandiford and Shaquille Hollingsworth getting the 3rd and 4th place finishes to gain more notable athletes Shaquille Alleyne (TFA) and Jerome Stuart (FS). This may be the division to watch all year.
2006 BSSAC multievent winner and hurdle queen Kierre Beckles continues to display her versatility as an athlete with a commendable 2nd place in the Women's 400m behind middle distance runner Latoya Griffith of Quantum Leap - 57.9 - 58.2.
Odd distance ace Ramon Gittens had to settle for a 2nd place ( ironically to another Qunatum Leap athlete) in the Men's 400m.Stefan Goodridge's time of 49.5 was good enough for the win.Ramon ran 49.6 and former TFA athlete,Jamal "Weasel" Marshall now also a "Star" was 3rd in 49.8.
Erla-Ashlee Massiah was the winner of the U-15 Girls 100m, but little Tristan Evelyn ( I mean that literally) was absolutely amazing.Only 9 years old Tristan got the entire stadium behind her as she looked to upset her older opponents.Way 2 go Tristan!!!
U-15 Boys ( more of the same ) Shakir (1st) - Shaquille (2nd).
The stadium was brought to life agin in the U-17 Girls 100m, when Kenrisha Brathwaite gave Carifta and CAC representative Tameka Rawlins a scare all the way to the finish line. Tameka ( TFA ) 12.4 - Kenrisha 12.7.
Andre Harper was 4th in the Men' 100m in a pedestrian 11.0 secs and Christian continues to dominate the 5000m winning from his training mate Jason Wilson,
The last victory for the glowing

The STARS begin to shine !!

The date was January 6th and the event was the opening meet of the 2007 Amateur Athletic Association season. It was also the beginning of what may be the start of a dominant season for the Rising Stars Track and Field club.
On the track Carifta and CAC gold medalist Ryan"Frenchie" Brathwaite set a new record in the men's 80m hurdles by defeating new "Star" and always challenger Ronnie Griffith. His time was 11.24 secs - 11.27 secs.
Long distance runner Christian Rock also set a new record with a time of 4 mins:45.5 secs in the 1600m(mile) holding of a challenge which came from Dario Burnham of BC Trac.
Former Lester Vaughan ace Ramon Gittens can now claim to be the best at odd distance sprints is Barbados. Ramon won the 60m in 6.5 secs from clubmate Everton Evelyn (6.8 secs). Ramon now has the records in 6om, 150m and the 300m.
Little Kenrisha Brathwaite, known more as a hurdler showed she can also sprint as she won the women's equivalent in an astonishing time of 7.8 secs.
One new "Star" who stood out among the U- 15 athletes was Queen's College schoolboy Shakir Sandiford who blazed the track in a convincing manner with two new records. Shakir won the 150m in 17.8 secs and the 300m in 39.2 secs.
Special mention goes to Jerrad Mason who won the 60m and 150m in the U-13 division.
Good luck guys and gals all year.

Liann is the first

Former Lester Vaughan School track queen Liann Kellman is the first athlete from the Rising Stars Track and Field club to gain an athletic scholarship. Liann recently left the island to attend Central Arizona College for two years.
After dominating the 100m sprints in the junior (U17 - 20) at the Interschool Sports in 2004 and 2005, Liann was always confident of going further in track and field.
The Rising Stars family wishes Liann all the best as we know that she will do us proud.
