WELL DONE Y'ALL !

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Oh Jerrad !

With the calmness that is expected from any seasoned campaigner and the grace of an african gazelle, thirteen ( YES, I said 13) year old Jerrad Mason yesterday ( 17th January 2009) showed and proved that age is really just a number.

Running in lane 2 of the U-17 boys 400m with the more experienced Anthonio Mascoll in lane 1 behind him, it was lashes from the gun.Mascoll was unfortunate to injure himself less than 150m into the race. Would the outcome have been any different if he wasn't hurt? U betcha! Jerrad ran an amazing 51.33 secs in the process.

However it was in the 800m that this remarkably unassuming, talented, yet very unpredictable youngster brought a roar to the stadium. After about 730m, the race seemingly over and lying in third place, the little boy from somewhere in St.Thomas called on all the reserves that he had and mowed down the two front-runners inclusive of S.Alleyne of TFA. Was the time anything of note? Well it was under 2.00 secs and that is nothing short of miraculous.
A totally riveting performance by a truly incredible guy.

A "Rising" effort

It was a truly remarkable effort given by ALL of the athletes today ( 10-01-09) at the opening meet of the 2009 track season.

The day got started with Todd and Dario in the U-15 boys high jump and Rhys in the U-17 division. The final placings were unavailable up to the posting of this report.

Later in the day when the relays started, the orange, black and white were again the classiest looking on the track. Not seeing U-15 boys 4x100m race ( I went to get food) ,I was told that it was dominance from the beginning to the end. This team also won the 4x200 and 4x400. Job well done Deondray,Todd,Dario,Kevin and Ross.

Wasn't it amazing watching our youthful U-17 boys running side by side with OLDER ( at least second year) U-17s?? Yeah man, it was!! It also took unsavoury coaching to beat us in two ( yes two) races- namely the 4x200 and the 4x400. Need I say more??

The U-17 girls ran once and that was the 4x100m. Sure the baton passes weren't up to scratch, but that was to be expected realising that we have not done any relay work as yet at training.Time and a better attitude and effort will make this team as good as any or better.

The senior teams should also be lauded for sterling efforts. The women had 2 of 2 ( 4x100 and 4x200). The men were a close second in their 4x100m.

In a conversation with the head coach,he expressed deep satisfaction in the overall EFFORTS of the athletes .
